I was at the parade

Dear Mausam,
Have you watched Bluffmaster? In the movie,Boman Irani comes up with an interesting dialogue when he tells Abhishek Bachchan that in our life when we look back at the years passed by,we only end up remembering a few special days and we have no memory for all the other days, coz those days were no different from any other day. Well I decided to increase the number of days which I remember when I look back at my life.I decided to make 26th January as one such special day.
Last week I bought the ticket of Republic Day parade.300 bucks for 2 tickets was'nt all that costly, but I had no idea who else was going with me.Finally Dheeraj Gupta,I call him Guptz,my friend from Punjab Uni who has joined me at office and home, went with me.We woke up at 6 A.M. and by 7 A.M. we were at Janpath(we being obedient citizen's reached the parade ground at the mentioned time). Not surprisingly ,we were the first one's to reach the venue. After crossing multiple security barriers we were finally in our enclosure. The seat alloted to us was'nt all that bad but the chairs were dirty and covered with frost. There was chill in the air and after walking through the lawns my shoes were wet with mist and in no time I couldnt feel my feet at all.The policemen were all over the place, walking, checking, observing, wandering and just looking around.Slowly and steadily people started coming in.In our enclosure there were people from various backgrounds,I could easily make out the Gujratiz, the tamils, the himachaliz, the bihariz, the rajasthaniz, the punjabiz, the delhites, the kashmiriz, the french, the americans, people from north east. One thing common with all was that everybody came well-dressed. The parade started around 930 hrs and the 21-gun salute was one of the highlights. The March of the Jawans, the display of the various missiles touched a patriotic vein in me. Believe me watching the parade in real was totally different from watching it on TV.A truly memorable experience.
Regards,
Ajj Kaim

I agree with you, Parwaz. I watched the parade live in 1960 ( I was a student of B.Sc.) and still remeber every detail vividly, including face of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. We went with a friend from Air Force and reached the enclosure at 5.00 a.m. to get a good seat.
