calling 911 from cellphone?

Satshriakaal Mausam,
I always wondered back in india what would happen if I had to call at 100 (i.e. emergency number) from my cellphone. Will my call go through?or would i have to dial 011 100 if i am in delhi or 0172-100 if i am in chandigarh. I really couldn't think of any logical answer to it.but now that I am in US, I thought what would happen if I have to call 911 from my cellphone in case of emergency? Say I bought my cellphone from Boston and I travel to california and I make an emergency call from Cali, will I be connected with "Boston office of 911", or "Cali office of 911"?
well the answer was easy to find considering everything in US is thoroughly documented so I googled for my specific question and this is what I found out http://firstaid.about.com/od/callingforhelp/bb/cell911.htm
I am still wondering what would happen if I call 100 from my cellphone in india? can anybody shed some light here.
Regards,
Ajj Kaim

This number doesnt exist, yeh number majjood nahi hai.

You have to use MTNL landline I suppose to use 100. To call from mobile, I think you need to dial 8 digit MTNL phone number of any police station.

All calls to the number 100 are recorded and responded to asap. Now asap is where we all might have found different opinions, but I dont think so. Whenever I have called that number, somebody has been on site within 15 mts. Now this is Delhi, and the reasons for my calls were loss of friends car, reporting an accident from afar and reporting bad driving of some one else.

They log your number and usually call you back immediately after assigning the nearest PCR van or police station.

BTW, 100 works from all mobile phones and in general, 112 is the accepted emergency number from a GSM phone all over the world. 112 works even when you are not in the home network, even if you are out of charge and dont have a SIM card in your phone.

changa! :-)
